30CrMoV9 (1.7707) Material Overview
30CrMoV9 (material number 1.7707) is a high-performance nitriding steel with a minimum of 2.3% chromium, 0.15% molybdenum, and 0.1% vanadium as main strengthening elements. This balanced alloy composition makes it has good wear resistance, high fatigue strength, good toughness, and great size stability after heat treatment.
Due to its great properties, 1.7707 steel is widely known as the best material for heavy-duty, high-load parts used in the automotive industry, general mechanical engineering, power generation, mining, and oil & gas industries. The material keeps its mechanical properties even at elevated temperatures which makes it suitable for harsh environments.
Production & Manufacturing for 30CrMoV9 Steel
Our 30CrMoV9 forging parts are made strictly in accordance with EN 10083 standards. The steel making and production process is strict as below:
- Primary Melting: Electric arc furnace (EAF) or blast furnace with oxygen blast converter, and later ladle refining treatment to get great steel cleanliness
- Vacuum Degassing:VOD vacuum degassing treatment to get great steel purity and reduce the content of hydrogen, oxygen, and nitrogen
- Non-Radioactive Guarantee: All production batches are certified non-radioactive with full test
- Quality Grade: Minimum quality class MQ in accordance with ISO 6336-5 or DIN 3990-5 standards for gear uses
- Forging: Open die forging is carried out using a 2,000-6,300-ton hydraulic press and a 0.75-9-ton electro-hydraulic hammer to get the best grain flow
- Heat Treatment: Full in-house heat treatment includes soft annealing, hardening, tempering, and nitriding
- Machining:Precision machining to finished sizes according to customers' drawings using CNC equipment

30CrMoV9 Heat Treatment Methods
We do full in-house heat treatment for 30CrMoV9 (1.7707) forged parts, with precise control to get your required mechanical properties:
- Soft Annealing: Heat to 650–720℃,cool slowly in furnace to get a maximum Brinell hardness of 248 HB to improve the machinability and eliminate the stress
- Hardening: Austenitize at 870–930℃, followed by oil/polymer or water quenching to get full hardness and martensitic structure
- Tempering: Tempering temperature range of 580–700℃, correctly adjusted to get the best balance of strength, toughness, and ductility for special uses
- Nitriding: By Gas/salt bath nitriding at 570–580℃ or powder/plasma nitriding at 580℃ to get great surface hardness (up to 1,000 HV) and good wear resistance with minimal distortion
Mechanical Properties of 30CrMoV9
Our 30CrMoV9 (1.7707) forging raw material can get the following minimum mechanical properties after standard heat treatment (quenching and tempering):
- Tensile Strength (Rm): > 800 MPa (ultimate tensile strength,the material can withstand the maximum stress before fracture)
- Yield Strength (Rp0.2): > 590 MPa (proof strength at 0.2% plastic deformation, the stress at which permanent deformation begins)
- Elongation (A): > 8% (ductility measurement, indicating how much the material can stretch before breaking)
- Impact Resistance (KV): > 20 J (Charpy V-notch impact toughness at room temperature, measuring the material's ability to absorb energy during fracture)
