FV520B is a martensitic precipitation hardening stainless steel, hardened by low-temperature heat treatment. It works well in hard environments with strict control on chemical composition and heat treatment way according to AMS 5773E standards.

FV520B Forged Steel Heat Treatment Way | AMS 5773E
To get good mechanical strength and corrosion resistance, all FV520B turbine blades and forged parts need to follow the 3-stage heat treatment cycle as per AMS 5773E:
Heat to 1050°C
Air cool to room temperature
Heat to 750°C
Hold 2 hours → Air cool
Heat to 550°C
Hold 2 hours → Air cool

- Remelting: Electro-Slag Remelting (ESR, max 32 t) or Vacuum Arc Remelting (VAR) for good purity
