Advanced Melting & Forging Process for Optimal Product Performance#
To make sure the internal density, mechanical properties, and long life cycle of our forging steel gate valve wedge discs, we use standardized and customizable melting and forging processes, with digital control for every production step. Standard Melting Process Routes
Route 1: Normal Melting Process (For Carbon & Alloy Steel, Standard Applications)

Route 2: High-Purity Vacuum Melting Process (For Stainless Steel, Nickel Alloy, High-Corrosion/High-Temperature Applications)
- Step 1: Vacuum Induction Melting (VIM), to get precise control of chemical composition in a high-vacuum environment which can avoid oxidation and gas inclusion, and make sure the purity of stainless steel and nickel-based super alloys
- Step 2: Electroslag Remelting (ESR) / Electroflux Remelting (EFR) / Vacuum Arc Remelting (VAR), to further improve steel density and uniformity, eliminate internal defects, and make sure stable performance in harsh working conditions
- Optional Step 3: Secondary Vacuum Arc Remelting (VAR) for extreme working conditions (e.g., ultra-high pressure, ultra-low temperature)
Full Forging & Heat Treatment Process
After melting, we use open die forging process with 2000-6000 tons hydraulic forging presses with a forging ratio of no less than 3:1 (up to 6:1 for critical applications) to make sure complete breaking of the cast structure, refine grain size, and improve the mechanical properties of the forged steel gate valve wedge discs. After forging, we do customized heat treatment including normalizing, quenching, tempering, and stress relief annealing, according to material grade and client's technical requirements, to have a better hardness, tensile strength, yield strength, impact resistance, and microstructure.

The client's main issue was severe wear and tear of the wedge disc sealing surface which caused by high sand content (up to 15%) in crude oil, under 42MPa high working pressure. Our solution: do HVOF tungsten carbide coating (HRC 60) on the sealing surface and 100% ultrasonic testing (UT), magnetic particle inspection (MPI), and API 6A standard testing. All products passed the client's third-party inspection by SGS, and have been operating stably for more than 6 years without any sealing failure.
European Union: Large Petrochemical Refinery Project (Germany)
We customized Hastelloy C276 and Inconel 625 forged gate valve wedge discs for refinery project in Germany with a capacity of 450,000 barrels per day, we process the parts according to PED 2014/68/EU and DIN EN standards. The products are used in strong acid and alkali corrosive media pipelines, with working temperature up to 480℃. We use VIM + ESR double melting process to make sure material purity, with Stellite 6# overlay on the sealing surface, and made 100% intergranular corrosion testing and hardness inspection. All products were provided with EN 10204 3.2 certificate with TUV third-party inspection, and have been operating for more than 6 years.
North America: LNG Terminal Project (USA)
We provided SA350 LF2 low-temperature carbon steel forged gate valve wedge discs forma LNG terminal project on the US Gulf Coast with a capacity of 18 million tons per year. The main challenge was to make sure the impact toughness of the product at -196℃ ultra-low cryogenic temperature. We use improved quenching and tempering heat treatment process, then do Charpy V-notch impact testing at -196℃ (average impact energy ≥ 27J), and passed all NDT testing including UT, MPI, and X-ray inspection. Our products have been used stably in the LNG storage and transmission system for 4 years.
Southeast Asia: 660MW Thermal Power Plant Project (Indonesia)
We provided ASTM A182 F91 heat-resistant alloy steel forged gate valve wedge discs for the main steam pipeline system of a 660MW coal-fired power plant in Indonesia, our products can be used in working conditions with temperature up to 590℃ and working pressure up to 17.5MPa. We use ESR melting process with high-temperature tensile testing and creep resistance testing to optimize the internal structure. All the products are provided with complete heat treatment records and EN 10204 3.1 certificate. The products have been used for more than 3 years, with no deformation or sealing failure.
Oceania: Mining Slurry Pipeline Project (Australia)
We made 2507 super duplex steel forged gate valve wedge discs for a big iron ore mining slurry pipeline project in Western Australia. The client's issue was high-concentration (60%) iron ore slurry and brackish water caused serious wear and corrosion . Our solution is to do HVOF chrome carbide coating on the sealing surface, with pitting corrosion testing and hardness inspection, 100 according to Australian AS standard. The products have been operating for 3 years, its life cycle can be extended 3.5 times longer than the previous supplier's products.
