Heat Treatment Process for 2.4610 Forgings

All 2.4610 forgings are delivered in the improved solution annealing (ISA) condition, performed in our 10 fully automated heat treatment furnaces:

1

Solution Annealing — 1150–1180°C

Heat the forging to 1150–1180°C (2100–2150°F) and hold for sufficient time to completely dissolve all precipitates including sigma phase, carbides and mu phase.

2

Rapid Water Quench

Transfer immediately to water or polymer quench bath. The part must cool rapidly through the sensitization range (650–1000°C) to prevent chromium carbide reprecipitation and preserve full corrosion resistance.

3

Optional Aging (Specialty Use Only)

For higher strength applications, optional aging at 650–700°C for 4–8 hours is available. Note: aging reduces corrosion resistance — confirm with your engineer before specifying.

📋
Documentation

Time-temperature furnace charts are archived for every batch and included with the EN10204 3.1 mill test certificate, providing full heat treatment traceability for your specific forging batch.

Frequently Asked Questions About 2.4610 Forgings

What is 2.4610 (NiMo16Cr16Ti) alloy?
2.4610 is the European EN standard designation for a high-performance nickel-chromium-molybdenum alloy, also known as NiMo16Cr16Ti. It is a corrosion-resistant superalloy in the same alloy family as Hastelloy® C-276 (UNS N10276). It has excellent resistance to intergranular corrosion, pitting corrosion and stress corrosion cracking (SCC) in acidic, chloride-bearing and H₂S-containing environments, widely used in oil and gas, nuclear power and chemical processing industries.
What is the difference between 2.4610 and Hastelloy® C-276?
2.4610 and Hastelloy® C-276 belong to the same Ni-Cr-Mo alloy family and are functionally equivalent in most applications. 2.4610 features ultra-low carbon (max 0.015%) and silicon (max 0.08%) plus titanium stabilization, making it more resistant to intergranular corrosion in the as-welded condition without post-weld heat treatment. For European EN/DIN projects specify 2.4610; for ASTM/ASME projects specify UNS N10276 per ASTM B564.
What is the maximum size of 2.4610 forgings you can produce?
Seamless rolled rings: up to 6,000 mm OD and 30 tonnes per piece. Forged bars and shafts: up to 2,000 mm diameter and 15 meters length at up to 30 tonnes. Forged discs and tube sheets: up to 4,000 mm diameter and 25 tonnes. All custom dimensions produced to your engineering drawing.
What certifications do your 2.4610 forged parts have?
Our factory holds ISO 9001:2015 quality management system certification. Our 2.4610 forgings are manufactured to meet the material and dimensional requirements of API 6A, ASME BPVC, PED 2014/68/EU, NACE MR0175/ISO 15156, NORSOK, DIN and EN standards. We provide EN10204 3.1 mill test certificate with every order. EN10204 3.2 with third-party witness signature is available on request. End-use product certifications such as API Monogram and CE-PED marking are issued to equipment manufacturers and end users, not to forging material suppliers.
What is the lead time for custom 2.4610 forging parts?
Standard lead time for custom 2.4610 forging blanks is 25 to 35 days. Finished machined parts take 35 to 45 days. Urgent orders can be expedited to 15 to 20 days depending on complexity and quantity. All lead times measured from order confirmation to factory handover.
What is the difference between 2.4610 and 2.4819 (Hastelloy® C-22)?
2.4610 (UNS N10276) and 2.4819 (Hastelloy® C-22, UNS N06022) are both Ni-Cr-Mo superalloys. 2.4610 has higher molybdenum (14–17%) making it superior in reductive acid environments (HCl, H₂SO₄) and sour gas service. 2.4819 has higher chromium (20–22.5%) and contains tungsten, giving better resistance to oxidizing media and mixed acid environments such as flue gas desulfurization (FGD) systems. Choose 2.4610 for reductive acid or sour service; choose 2.4819 for oxidizing or mixed environments.
What is the maximum service temperature for 2.4610 forged parts?
The recommended continuous service temperature range for 2.4610 in corrosive environments is −196°C to approximately +450°C. Above 450°C sigma phase and mu phase can form at grain boundaries, reducing toughness and corrosion resistance. For higher temperature oxidizing service consider Inconel® 625 (2.4856) or Incoloy® 825 (2.4858).
Can 2.4610 forged parts be used in seawater and marine environments?
Yes. 2.4610 has a PREN value above 65, well above the minimum of 40 required for reliable seawater service. It shows essentially no measurable pitting corrosion in natural seawater even in stagnant crevice conditions up to 60°C. Applications include subsea wellhead connectors, riser connectors, seawater injection pump parts, desalination plant internals, propeller shaft sleeves and seachest valves.
What factors affect the price of 2.4610 forging parts?
Price of custom 2.4610 forgings is influenced by six factors: (1) Raw material cost — 2.4610 contains approximately 16% molybdenum and 16% chromium, both expensive strategic metals. (2) Forging complexity and weight — simple bars cost less per kg than complex shapes. (3) Heat treatment — standard solution annealing is included; additional aging cycles add cost. (4) Inspection scope — EN10204 3.1 is standard; adding third-party witness, 100% UT, RT or corrosion testing adds cost. (5) Machining level — rough blanks are lower cost than finished machined parts. (6) Order quantity — larger orders benefit from better economics. Contact sales@jnmtforgedparts.com for a free quotation.
