Custom Heat Treatment Process for 102Cr6 Steel

We provide fully tailored heat treatment solutions based on your specific application requirements, to get the improved balance of hardness, toughness and wear resistance:

  • Soft Annealing: Heat to 720-750℃, slow cool in furnace to below 550℃, then air cooling. Max hardness is 225 HB, which is the best choice for subsequent rough and finish CNC machining.
  • Stress Relieving: Heat to 640-660℃, hold for 1-2 hours, then air cooling. Deletes machining residual stress, reduces dimensional distortion during final heat treatment.
  • Hardening: Heat to 790-820℃ (thin sections, not exceeding 15mm) or 820-860℃ (thick sections, 15-30mm) to austenitizing temperature, then quench in oil or water. Hardness after quench: 63-67 HRC.
  • Tempering: Tempering temperature 150-300℃, fully customized according to hardness and application required:
    • 150-200℃: 60-65 HRC (for high-wear bearing components and rolling elements)
    • 200-250℃: 58-62 HRC (for tool & die components, shear blades, and cutting knives)
    • 250-300℃: 56-60 HRC (for high-toughness shaft components and gear shafts)

The main difference is the standard used: 1.2067 is the European EN/DIN standard grade and 52100 is the US ASTM/AISI standard grade.
